Prof. Dr. Christoph A. Rass
[IMIS] [SFB1604] [HistOS]

The two historians Prof. Dr. Christoph Rass (Osnabrück University) and Prof. Dr. Lale Yildirim (Kiel University) are jointly leading sub-project A3 of the Collaborative Research Center 1604 "Production of Migration". Together with the two doctoral students Ahmet Celikten and Maik Hoops, they are investigating the formation of figures of migration in the German school system since the 1960s. The project focuses on terms such as "guest worker children", "foreigner children" or "children with a migration background". Rass and Yildirim want to uncover the patterns and mechanisms of knowledge production and analyze their social consequences. The role of science in the construction of difference is to be illuminated and a reflexive understanding of migration in the educational context is to be encouraged.

Rass and Yildirim are also involved in the SFB's transfer project as Principal Investigators. In cooperation with the Documentation Center and Museum on Migration in Germany (DOMiD), a real laboratory is being created in the House of Immigration Society, in which virtual spaces are designed in a participatory manner. Christoph Rass is contributing his expertise in the field of digital public history and the development of VR applications to the project. Lale Yildirim supports the participatory production of VR modules and focuses on the experiences of migrant pupils.
