Athenian life in the 4th century BC.

13.02.2026, 10:30-12:00 and 13:00-18:00, Room 18/E07

 Associate Professor Dr. Markus Sehlmeyer

Athens in the 4th century BC is particularly well known thanks to a large number of sources - speeches, but also the first monographic treatments such as the "State of the Athenians" from the school of Aristotle or his economic writings. The political constitution is often the focus of interest, but the sources also reveal something about the everyday situation and rules of experience, the "nomological knowledge", as Max Weber calls it. In addition to the interpretation of ancient sources, individual problems will be discussed in the workshop and participants can also present their own projects if they wish.
