Accompanying program

The Joint Lab for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI & DS) offers a variety of regular activities to promote scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange, and to strengthen the community.

PhD Seminar

The PhD Seminar takes place every two weeks, where PhD students present their current research projects. This seminar serves as a platform for scientific exchange and discussion of ongoing work. In addition to PhD students, Principal Investigators (PIs) and external scientists also present their research work and show how it fits into the context of the Joint Lab. This not only promotes collaboration within the lab, but also provides valuable insights into a wide range of research topics and methods.

Online PhD program Bioeconomy

The ATB also offers the online lecture and seminar series 'Bioeconomy' for PhD students, which takes place one to two times per month. The content of the presentations ranges from general to specific within the scientific topics in the lab, and it enables PhD students to expand their knowledge in this field and exchange ideas with experts.

Semi-annual retreats

Twice a year, the Joint Lab organizes a retreat that takes place over a period of two to three days. During these intensive meetings, the partners from Osnabrück and the ATB have the opportunity to exchange ideas and deepen their collaboration. These retreats promote intensive dialog and the joint development of new research ideas and projects.

Annual feedback meetings

Another important part of the activities are the annual feedback meetings. At these meetings, the progress of PhD students is evaluated by an independent committee. These evaluations aim to provide advice and identify potential obstacles that could affect the timely and successful completion of the PhD project. As a result, doctoral students receive valuable feedback that helps them to progress their projects in a targeted manner.

Research areas and reading groups

The three research areas of the Joint Lab also have monthly meetings where specific topics and progress are discussed. There are also topic-specific reading groups to discuss current scientific publications and trends.

Regular social exchange and leisure activities

Monthly stand-up lunches and coffee meetings offer members the opportunity to exchange and discuss ideas in an informal atmosphere. In addition, we organize various activities such as excursions, bowling evenings and barbecues to strengthen the sense of community and promote cohesion within the team.
