Equality between all members of the academic staff and the compatibility of family and career are core concerns of the institutions involved in the SFB. For Osnabrück University, equality, diversity and family friendliness are integral elements of its organisational culture.
Osnabrück University has signed the ›Charta der Vielfalt‹ (›Diversity Charter‹) and is committed to diversity-conscious recruitment and appointment procedures. The university has a gender and diversity controlling system. It helps to identify and take account of structural barriers (e.g. due to gender, social background or position, family migration history, race and international mobility) at an early stage. The aim is to work together to find the best-suited career development paths.
In order to sustainably strengthen equality and diversity at all qualification levels, SFB 1604 appoints an Equal Opportunities & Diversity Officer.

- Mentoring and career planning services for female postdocs and PhD students
- Additional training possibilities according to needs
- Internal SFB events take usual childcare hours into account.
- Support for employees with care work obligations
- Parent-child rooms for members and guests ( room 03/E25a)
- Childcare possibilities on conferences and research trips and at SFB events outside normal hours and in situations of emergency for employees and guests
- Regular survey of SFB members on gender equality issues and needs
- Individual advice from the Equal Opportunity Office at Osnabrück University on issues related to the compatibility of family and career, sexualized harassment, intersectional discrimination and equal opportunities
- Gender and diversity trainings
