Profile & Organisation
The Collaborative Research Centre ›Production of Migration‹ (SFB 1604) is a long-term research network funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) with around 60 members. The SFB is based at Osnabrück University and involves the University of Münster, the Goethe University Frankfurt, the Europa-Universität Flensburg, TU Dortmund University, Kiel University, and FU Berlin in cooperation with the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Research Potsdam.
SFB 1604 is closely linked to the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at Osnabrück University, which is part of the DeZIM Research Community and the international research network IMISCOE.
Empirical research is conducted in 15 projects organised in the project areas Figures, Infrastructures and Spaces. It is carried out in Germany, France, Serbia, Moldova, Senegal, the USA and India/Nepal, among others, and deals with various areas of society, such as law, schools and the labour market, health, administration and religion.
The Transfer Project, in cooperation with the Documentation Centre and Museum on Migration in Germany (DOMiD), tests the perspectives and findings of the SFB on the ground and integrates the findings from the use of VR tools and discussions with civil society actors into the joint work of the SFB. The Integrated Research Training Group provides supervision and support for around 20 doctoral students. The Reflexivity Lab is the central site for joint interdisciplinary research and the development of an innovative methodology of reflexive migration research and a reflexive theory of the social production of migration.
The SFB Office is responsible for the organisation and administration of the Collaborative Research Centre as well as for science communication and supports the work of the Executive Board and the Principal Investigators Assembly. The office staff is available for all questions concerning the SFB!
