The Sociologies of MCA

Joint Workshop of Sociology/Goethe University Frankfurt, Communication Studies/University Duisburg-Essen and SFB 1604

The workshop on Membership-Categorisation-Analysis focus on practising, applying and further developing this special interpretative and post-structuralist analysis. It has a practical focus and aims to apply and integrate MCA in empirical cases. It will address the practical challenges of research and innovations, such as those proposed in sociological approaches to 'human differentiation' or 'trans-sequential analysis'. The workshop will also address the ethnomethodological foundation of MCAs and consider the analytical status of its key concepts, such as 'indexicality', 'reflexivity' and 'accountability', as well as the analytical objectives of examining regularities, preference structures and pre-structuring.
