Visiting Home(s) in Heidelberg

Aurora A. Sauter participated in the 'Reconfiguring Place and Belonging in Socioecological Transformations' workshop at the SFB 1671 'Heimat(en)' in Heidelberg.

On the 20th and 21st of November, SFB 1604 member Aurora A. Sauter ( project C5) had the pleasure of exploring the home of  SFB 1671 Heimat(en) right in the heart of Heidelberg. She was invited to present conceptual ideas for her dissertation project on the nexus of climate change and migration in the Global North at the workshop  Planetary Crisis, Home, and Justice: Reconfiguring Place and Belonging in Socioecological Transformations. Thanks to the great organizers, Prof. Rosa Lehmann and Prof. Ulrike Gerhard, the workshop brought together urgent questions about the effects and relations of the climate crisis, inequalities, and home. The interdisciplinary and diverse group of researchers contributed work-in-progress, which allowed for productive discussions. The workshop was joined by Prof. Stephanie Wakefield (Florida Atlantic University), who delivered the keynote “Miami in the Anthropocene – Resilience, Environmental Change, and Transforming Spaces of Inhabitation”.

The visit to Heidelberg was a great opportunity to be introduced to SFB 1671 Heimat(en). Starting from the different societal buzzwords “migration” and “home”, the two SFBs are both tackling the challenging task of analyzing, modelling, and understanding loaded and politicized concepts. Looking forward to future occasions of exchange.
