The Social Science Student Council

The student council: what is it?

Basically, the student council is the entirety of all students of a subject or related subjects who belong to a school or institute. In your case, this means all students of the Institute of Social Sciences (IfS). This means that we represent the following degree programs:

  • B.A. European Studies
  • B.A. Social Sciences (Major/Minor Politics, Sociology)
  • B.A. Dual-Subject Bachelor Sociology
  • B.A. Dual-Subject Bachelor Political Science
  • M.A. Sociological Time Diagnosis / M.A. Sociology
  • M.A. European Governance in the Transformation

The Institute is part of the School of Cultural Studies and Social Sciences. Colloquially, "Fachschaft" is usually used synonymously with the "Fachschaftsrat", which is elected once a year by the students within the individual institutes.
Because the representatives of the student council cannot manage all the tasks of the student council alone, not only the elected representatives are active, but all interested students can work with us and are fully entitled to vote.

What are the tasks of the student council?
  • Organization of the induction week
  • Dealing with current internal & external problems
  • Appointment of committees and commissions
  • University policy at institute and department level

In addition to these "official" tasks, we help students with questions of all kinds - so don't worry if you have problems or questions, just get in touch with us! We also regularly organize events such as the sociological film evening or parties.

The purpose of student council work is to provide a platform and a network in which student interests can be jointly represented, discussed and then implemented. However, this is only possible if as many students as possible get involved in the student council. If you would also like to express your opinion, change something or simply meet new people, come along! Anyone can take part in our meetings: They take place every Wednesday evening in our student council room (room 15/501).

We look forward to meeting you!
