Project Escape Statistics

Welcome to the website of the "Escape Statistics" project.

Our aim is to provide all students with a successful and sustainable learning experience in introductory statistics that goes beyond passing the exam. Students should recognize and actively experience the value of a sound statistics education for their further studies and their future professional life.
To achieve this goal, we are developing an innovative online edu-escape room that combines knowledge acquisition, practical application and teamwork. The active involvement of students in the design of the escape room is central to this: they choose relevant fields of research and help develop the tasks, thereby creating a direct link to their own interests.
The learning content is embedded in current social science research fields. In order to do justice to the different BA courses, we integrate tailored empirical examples. Students work on tasks that are based on real data sets and require the application of various statistical methods, such as performing a table analysis, interpreting bivariate regression analyses or carrying out hypothesis tests.
In this way, students experience how statistical methods help them to answer their own research questions and consolidate their knowledge by applying it to new questions. This link is intended to significantly increase both intrinsic motivation and subjective learning success.

The project is funded by the "LehrZeit VIII" funding program of Osnabrück University.

Prof. Dr. Katrin Golsch, Dr. Ayhan Adams, Dr. Joanna Fröhlich and four student assistants are involved in this project.
