What social innovations can we use to tackle major challenges such as climate change or just and ecological transformation? And what unintended consequences can these have? With the lecture "Measuring impact, shaping the future: The balancing act between great expectations and reality" by Dr. Judith Terstriep Director of the research focus "Innovation, Space & Culture" at Westfälische Hochschule Gelsenkirchen, the 12th lecture series of Scientists for Future Osnabrück will kick off on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 7 pm.
The current lecture series "Climate and Biodiversity in Crisis - Paths to a Sustainable Future" is dedicated to various practical topics such as the question of whether climate-neutral flying is possible or how "lab steaks" could change our diet.
The free events are aimed at interested members of the public and will take place as usual in Lecture Hall 01/E01, Kolpingstr. 7, at 7 pm at Osnabrück University. In June, two excursions will be offered again this year: On Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a walk from Heger Friedhof to Rubbenbruch will focus on discovering biodiversity in Osnabrück. The excursion will be led by Prof. Dr. Kathrin Kiehl and Daniel Jeschke from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Landscape Architecture at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. On Saturday, June 21 from 9 am to 12 noon, Felix Przesdzink and Sebastian Holt from Osnabrück University will offer an ornithological tour of Rubbenbruchsee. Prior registration is required for the excursions, as the number of participants is limited.
With seven events, the Scientists for Future regional group in Osnabrück is providing solution-oriented information on various aspects of a sustainable way of life. "In times of multiple global crises, issues such as climate change and dwindling biodiversity are increasingly being pushed into the background. We want to draw more attention to these important topics with our lecture series," says biologist Prof. Dr. Chadi Touma from Osnabrück University.
