Who is the student council?

All students of School of Business Administration and Economics 9 (currently around 1300) belong to the student council. Colloquially, however, the term "Fachschaft" usually refers to the student council. In practice, these are the student representatives at the university. The student council officially has seven members, who you can and should elect every year in January/February. Of course, the seven of them cannot take on the tasks alone, which is why they are supported by working groups and other helpers. So it only works with a strong team, which currently includes people from all semesters and all schools in School 9.

What does the student council do?

The main task of the student council is to represent students vis-à-vis lecturers and the university management. In practice, in addition to individual discussions and "lobbying", this takes place in the university committees, in which students sit almost everywhere. So if there are problems, you can turn to one of us in confidence, we usually have a better chance of getting something through or we can put you in touch with the right people to talk to.
However, we are not only active in the committees, but also organize events of all kinds. These include Freshers' Week, our Christmas party, beer pong tournaments and parties at the start and end of the semester. On behalf of the school, we organize a graduation ceremony twice a year to prevent graduates from receiving their certificates impersonally by post.
But of course the student council has many more tasks. During the semester, there are office hours several times a week where you can ask us questions, complain about your problems or pick up a cold drink. With the support of virtUOS, scripts and exams can now also be downloaded from Stud.IP.

Why should I join the student council?

Many people ask themselves, why do they do this? How much money do you have to get to sit on committees for hours on end, write and layout until half past four in the morning, or clean up the university during Freshers' Week while everyone is already partying?
Answer: Nothing. The members of the student council don't get any money, better grades or hotter food in the canteen. Why do you do it anyway?
Because you learn. You learn to argue, to work in a team, to discuss with professors on an equal footing and to take responsibility. All the things that superiors miss in most young professionals. Participation is expressly encouraged, everyone is allowed, everyone can. Simply talk to your tutor or just drop by, there is a weekly meeting every Tuesday of the semester at 20:00 in the student council room (22/E09). We look forward to seeing you!
