Doctorate

Doctorate at the Chair of Information Management and Business Informatics

The Chair of Information Management and Business Informatics offers qualified graduates the opportunity to pursue a doctorate in business informatics. The doctorate is embedded in the chair's research activities and is closely linked to ongoing research, transfer, and third-party funded projects.
The aim is to address challenging questions relating to the design, introduction, and impact of digital and AI-supported information systems in organizations in a scientifically sound manner. Doctoral programs are generally design- and application-oriented and combine theoretical foundations with empirical analysis and prototypical implementation.

Research-related doctoral topics

Doctorates at the Chair are typically embedded in the following thematic focus areas:

  • AI-supported information systems and organizational decision support
  • Digital transformation processes in organizations
  • IT governance, risk and compliance management for data- and AI-based systems
  • Modeling, architecture and implementation of complex information systems
  • Socio-technical effects of digital systems on work, organization and learning

Specific doctoral topics are developed individually and are based on the research focus of the chair and ongoing projects.

Promotion formats and integration

Doctorates can be carried out in different formats:

  • Project-based Doctorates as part of publicly funded research and collaborative projects
  • Cooperative Doctorates in collaboration with companies or public organizations
  • Individual doctorates with a clear thematic connection to the chair's research

An essential component is active involvement in academic discourse, for example through conference contributions, journal publications and collaboration in research projects.

Supervision and scientific environment

Doctorates are supervised in close, continuous coordination. Active participation in the research environment of the chair is expected, in particular

  • Participation in research colloquia and internal workshops
  • Discussion of research design, methodology and results
  • Support with publication strategy and international visibility

Doctorates are embedded in an interdisciplinary scientific environment with links to economics, computer science, engineering and regulation.
