The joint project FoDiRa has the central aim to further develop quantitative empirical methods for the investigation of discrimination and racism. Research fields are the most relevant areas of life: education, work and housing as well as health. Further research fields are to be systematically included in which racist prejudices can arise, reproduce or intensify in everyday life, such as the areas of media and sports as well as the digital arena. For example, various sub-projects will carry out (partially) automated evaluations of extensive amounts of text from various print or online media, as well as social networks and websites. This will make it possible to identify racist connotations using the most modern methods and, in particular, the regional variance, and thus also to investigate effects and interactions, for example, for or with labour market integration or for the occurrence of racially motivated assaults.
Racism in Sport – In-depth Analysis and Additions to the Stacking Phenomenon
The subproject "Racism in Sport – In-depth Analysis and Additions to the Stacking Phenomenon", based at BIM and IMIS, investigates, among other things, whether racist attributions play a role in the allocation of playing positions and leadership roles in soccer and basketball. Although racism is particularly prevalent in soccer and is the subject of controversial debate in the media, there has been little systematic research on discrimination and racism in sports to date.
