Outlook
- Retreat "rubber boot camp" in autumn
Under the motto "unpack the rubber boots", the autumn retreat at ATB in Potsdam will be held from October 16 to 18, 2024. This time we will take action and turn our attention to the field. In several workshops, we will focus on data collection in the thematic areas of the project teams to generate a greater understanding between data science and agricultural research.
- Feedback meetings
The second half of the year will also see the start of a new series of feedback meetings, which will now benefit those PhDs who started their work later.
- Hiking trip
To get into conversation outside of the office and as a team-building measurement, we will be taking a hiking trip to the Osnabrück countryside on August 20, 2024. The destination will be the "Malepartus" restaurant ( https://www.malepartus.net/). If you have the time and inclination to join us, we would be delighted to welcome you (please register with Gabriela Pipa).
Recent activities
- New PhD seminar series
A new PhD seminar series has been established. The series kicked off with a talk by Prof. Dr. Cornelia Weltzien on her focus "automation and robotic". Further presentations by supervisors on their main topics will follow in the near future.
For those who will not be able to join us in our new office, place please find the online access to the PhD seminar meetings here:
https://webconf.uos.de/b/gab-rw2-8in-rne - Focus workshop on digital twins
One important goal of the Joint Lab KI & DS is to find application-oriented solutions for the agriculture of tomorrow together with partners from industry. For this reason, a focus workshop entitled "digital twin as a tool for agriculture" was organized by the associated partner Agrotech Valley Forum e.V. in June. With the participation of the Joint Lab in the program, important foundations were laid for the development and practical application of digital twins in the Osnabrück region.
- Retreat in spring
Our spring retreat took place in Osnabrück at CIC on April 29 & 30. For two days, we took the time to reflect on the status of our work to date and to initiate new developments, some of which we have already been able to realize. Essentially, we have agreed that we want to further interlink the individual projects in order to make better use of potential synergies.
- Study excursion
To give students on the Master's degree course in Geoinformatics an insight into current research, 13 students and lecturers from Osnabrück University visited ATB in Potsdam at the end of May. During the three-day excursion, the students were able to familiarize themselves with alternative cultivation systems such as agroforestry, short rotation plantations and paludiculture. A particular focus was placed on data collection using drones.
- BBQ
One last informal get-together before the summer break was a BBQ. Now that we have all taken a short breather, we are already looking forward to the second half of the year.
