Transfer: Research with Impact

For 25 years, the Institute of Cognitive Science has been combining top international research with practical projects. Over 1,000 students learn to solve complex challenges of the modern working world in an interdisciplinary and innovative way.

Benefit from our innovative strength and get to know our talented students - they are the specialists of tomorrow!

Dr. Tobias Thelen, Managing Director of the Institute, looks forward to hearing from you!

Our cooperation formats

Theses (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate) can be individually tailored to operational issues. The projects are supervised by our researchers - usually professors at the institute - according to the latest state of research.

In addition, study projects in which students work on specific topics from companies and organizations enable students to gain practical experience at an early stage. Such a project often serves as preparation for a later thesis.

Advantages at a glance

  • Individualized topics
  • Up-to-date scientific support
  • Talent scouting

Jointly organized topic-related hackathons in which cognitive science students work on real-life business challenges within a very short period of time (24 - 72 hours). A company or organization provides a practical problem, data and expertise - and our students develop creative solutions and present the results live.

Advantages at a glance

  • Quick boost of ideas and solutions
  • Recruitment potential

Together with companies or organizations, we design third-party funded research projects, which we apply for in funding programs such as BMBF, EU Horizon, state and other research funds. Such projects create the basis for future-oriented solutions and drive innovation.

Professionals have the opportunity to contribute their own specialist topics to courses as part of a teaching assignment. This can be linked to study projects in which students work on current research and development issues under the supervision of our professors.

In addition, companies and organizations can present themselves as employers in the established "Meet the Locals" series.

Advantages at a glance

  • Early talent scouting
  • Visibility as an innovative employer
