(Local) migration regimes, theories & practices of governance, police research, production of knowledge, qualitative research methods
Since May 2019, I have been working as a research assistant in the junior research group "The Scientific Production of Knowledge about Migration". I am researching the production of police knowledge about migration. I ask how police forces negotiate and produce reflexive knowledge about migration movements with various non-police actors through research projects, in seminars and training courses and at the border.
I became a member of IMIS in October 2019. Before that, I worked for five years at the Department of Anthropology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Konstanz (Prof. Kirsch) and completed my doctorate in the doctoral programme "Europe in the Globalized World". My sociological dissertation, which I successfully defended in July 2021 (summa cum laude), deals with how issues of dealing with migration are negotiated locally, in the cities entrusted with the reception and accommodation of asylum seekers. Using Leipzig as an example, I show how states of permanent provisionality are established in the course of these disputes. My research was made possible by the German National Academic Foundation and the Cluster of Excellence "Cultural Foundations of Integration". Before my Doctorate, I studied cultural studies with a focus on sociology in Lüneburg, Leipzig and Lyon. I teach on various migration-related topics and methods of qualitative social research.
