On January 1, 2015, the Research Training Group 'The Production of Migration' began its work for an initial period of three years. It comprised a group of young academics, five of whom were awarded doctoral scholarships and two of whom were awarded post-doctoral scholarships funded by Osnabrück University and the Sievert Foundation. The seven scholarship holders were joined by other young graduates who were carrying out a research project in the research group's subject area and were already working at IMIS with scholarships from other foundations or as research assistants.
The aim of the research group was to bring together a group of IMIS members and highly qualified young academics with different disciplinary backgrounds and theoretical orientations in order to conduct individual case studies on the production of migration in a theoretically innovative and empirically reflective manner. In the process, ongoing research in and networks of the IMIS could be constructively introduced and further developed with the perspective of interdisciplinary basic research, which is aimed at analyzing the conditions, forms and consequences of the production of migration with recourse to various social theories.
