A catalyst lowers the activation energy, accelerates reactions and remains unchanged - a fascinating concept that Prof. Beeken and his team transfer to the Christmas season with a wink, because hand on heart: a catalyst can sometimes do no harm even during the festive season - whether it's helping to make the Christmas menu a success, decorating the tree or bringing peace to the family after the third plate of cookies. With experiments, humor and a dash of self-irony, the team shows how chemical principles can have a humorous effect on everyday life.
The working group supposedly has a special mission - purely satirical, of course - to develop very individual Christmas presents for well-known politicians on behalf of an anonymous client. What might be under the Christmas tree of a passionate sausage lover, a strategic financial expert, a communicative mediator or an energy policy pioneer is revealed with subtle irony and lots of chemistry.
When science, society and satire react with each other, the result is a mixture that is entirely in the style of the Osnabrück Christmas Lectures: entertaining, surprising and reactive!
Tip for families: Santa Claus even comes to visit our youngest guests!
