History and Political Science

Contemporary history, historical migration research, migration and violence, crime, violence and public safety, violence in the Global South, history of urban violence, discourses on social order, national identity and historical narratives, youth gangs and youth violence; focus region: Latin America (especially Central America)

Since 2016, research associate at the Department of History (Contemporary History and Historical Migration Research) at Osnabrück University and member of IMIS.

Current research project (German Research Foundation):   Negotiating Resettlement.

After studying history and political science at the University of Hannover, Germany and the Universidad de Costa Rica, I worked as a research assistant at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg between 2006 and 2010. In 2011 I received a PhD from the University of Hamburg (summa cum laude). Between 2011 and 2015 I worked as a senior researcher at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG) at Bielefeld University, Germany. In 2016 I joined the Department of History (Modern History and Historical Migration Research) and the Institute of Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the Osnabrück University.
