The DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre ‘Production of Migration’ (SFB 1604) began its work in April 2025. Around 60 researchers from the fields of geography, history, psychology, linguistics, law and social sciences are investigating various forms, facets and consequences of the social negotiation of migration. The aim is to develop a reflexive theory of the social production of migration.
The SFB comprises 15 subprojects that are assigned to three media of production and thus project areas: figures, infrastructures and spaces. The subprojects work together across project areas in the Reflexivity Laboratory. The Collaborative Research Centre also includes an integrated research training group and a transfer project that applies and tests the perspectives and findings of the SFB in practice in collaboration with a migration museum.
The SFB is committed to promoting early-career researchers as well as equal opportunities and diversity. In addition to Osnabrück University, the Christian Albrecht University of Kiel, the University of Münster, the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, the University of Flensburg, the Technical University of Dortmund and the FU of Berlin/Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam are participating.
