DeZIM Research Community
Osnabrück University is a founding member of the German Center for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM), which began its work in 2018. DeZIM's tasks include research, science-based policy advice, and the regular and professional transfer of new research findings to the public. Structurally, DeZIM rests on two pillars: In addition to the newly founded DeZIM Institute (Berlin), there is the DeZIM Research Community, in which seven leading research institutions are linked in a network. In addition to IMIS (Osnabrück University), these are the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM), the Nuremberg Institute for Employment Research (IAB), the Bielefeld Institute for Interdisciplinary Conflict and Violence Research (IKG), the Interdisciplinary Center for Integration and Migration Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen (InZentIM), the Mannheim Center for European Social Research (MZES), and the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB).
Together, the institute and the community form a novel nationwide research structure that is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) following a decision by the German Bundestag. The DeZIM research community aims to improve networking in the field of integration and migration research in Germany and to strengthen it through joint research projects. IMIS is involved in several projects of the DeZIM research community:
