Biology student council

We are the Biology student council

Our task is to represent the interests of all biology students on university committees. We also plan many events for first-year students and organise other (party) events.

If you encounter any problems during your studies or have any questions, we will take the time to talk to you, give you advice and guide you through your studies. Feel free to drop by our student council office during office hours, because we are always happy to listen to your concerns!

If you are also interested in helping to shape your studies and participating democratically, then you are welcome to come and check us out and simply join us at the official meeting. Our meetings take place every Wednesday at 8 p.m. in our student council room in 35/B29-31.

First-semester program

As every year, there is an introductory week for our first-semester students before the start of the winter semester. This always takes place in the week before lectures begin.

In addition to guided tours of the university buildings and presentations on the detailed course structure and examination regulations, we also organise a fantastic university rally and show you Osnabrück by night. The week helps you find your feet in your new everyday university life, but also offers you a great opportunity to get to know your new fellow students and make new friends.

If you have any questions about the first-semester program, just come and talk to us or send us an email ( fachschaft-bio@uni-osnabrueck.de).

University policy

Our most important task is to represent the political interests of biology students within the various university committees.

These include:

  • FSR: The student council directly represents the interests of students in various committees and is elected by students at the end of each winter semester.
  • FBR: The School Executive Board is the highest body in each faculty. The board is composed of professors, academic and non-academic staff, and two students. The School Executive Board decides on study and examination regulations, the filling of positions, the distribution of funds, etc. In addition, the School Executive Board elects the dean.
  • StuKo: The Study Commission is responsible for making recommendations to the FBR on matters relating to teaching, studies and examinations. These recommendations must then be taken into account in the final decision. We are represented by six students in the Study Commission.
  • FKK: The Student Council Coordination Conference discusses and resolves interdisciplinary issues affecting students in all of the university's student councils. It is a committee of the Asta.
  • Appointment committees: The appointment committee discusses suitable candidates for an advertised professorship. It then reports to the Presidium and makes a recommendation on the applicants. Six professors, two research assistants and two students are entitled to vote.
  • Master's Selection Committee: This committee consists of a student representative, two professors and a representative from the group of research assistants, who advise on the admission of students to the Master's programme in Biology.
  • Examination committee: The examination committee consists of four professors and one student representative. It deals with everything related to examinations, from student applications and appeals to questions about examination regulations.
