Onboarding Week

Once or twice a year, we organize an onboarding week for students who are interested in writing their thesis in the NBP group. The aim is for you (the students) to find out which projects are available and of interest to you, and for us (the group) to get to know your skills and find out whether one or more projects are a good fit for you. Please note that there is no guarantee that we will find a suitable project - so we may have to turn down your interest in joining the NBP group. But of course we very much hope that many suitable constellations will arise and that we can continue together.

The process usually starts on a Monday. Peter König gives a presentation in which he gives an overview of our work, the idea of the onboarding week and a compact description of our projects and the processes for Bachelor's and Master's theses in the NBP group. This will be followed by a more specific presentation of the various projects. There will also be time for your questions. Afterwards, you can discuss the specific procedures and tasks for Tuesday to Thursday with the doctoral students. There are no external guidelines - you can freely agree with the doctoral students how you would like to get involved.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the core days - i.e. when things really get going. This is not a demonstration or just watching, but you will be actively involved in the projects. You could, for example, take on a small programming task, create a graphic based on a given data set, help carry out an experiment, test equipment for an upcoming experiment - in short: whatever is next in the ongoing projects. It is also possible to participate in more than one project - but please note that your total time is limited and that the time available for several projects will be divided accordingly.

Friday is your day off. If you wish, you can write a short report (approx. 1 page) about what you did, what went well and what didn't, and submit it in the evening. The doctoral students and Peter König will then sit down together, evaluate the week and decide whether we can offer you a concrete project.
