Preliminary check abroad

Eligibility for recognition of examinations taken abroad

If you want to complete part of your studies abroad and would like to have the examinations taken there credited at Osnabrück University at a later date, you have the option of having the eligibility of the courses planned abroad checked in advance. The respective representatives of the Business Administration, Economics and Information Systems departments are responsible for the preliminary examination.

For modules in the fields of Information Systems (Business Administration and IT) and Computer Science , the Department of Management Accounting and Information Systems (UWI) of Prof. Dr. Frank Teuteberg carries out the preliminary examination. For the Master's degree in Business Administration and Economics and the Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics (PO 2022 only), the assessment is also carried out here for the specialization "Information Systems".

For courses that you would like to take and receive credit for as part of the specific specializations in the compulsory elective area of Information Systems, the relevant department will check the eligibility for credit (e.g. Prof. Dr. Uwe Hoppe for the specialization "Organization and Information Systems", Prof. Dr. Frank Teuteberg for the specialization "Management Accounting and Information Systems", etc.).

Fill out a form to confirm eligibility for credit for each specialization and submit it - including the required documents - to the respective head of department.

Please note the following information:

1. the assessment of eligibility for credit transfer takes place after acceptance by the target university. This applies to Erasmus partner universities as well as other partner universities of the School of Business Administration and Economics or Osnabrück University.

2. we require the following information for each module to be checked for eligibility in advance:

  • Title, course description and outline (e.g. according to the module description; in German or English)
  • Literature used (e.g. according to the module description)
  • Information on whether the course is part of a Bachelor's or Master's degree program and in which academic year the course is scheduled to take place
  • Type of examination
  • Number of ECTS credits to be earned. If no ECTS credits are awarded (at a university in another EU country), information on the actual scope of the course (duration of the individual sessions in minutes and number of sessions) is required!

3. if you wish to have a course from a Bachelor's degree program credited towards the Master's degree program, the following requirements must also be met:

  • The Bachelor's degree program at the foreign university covers a period of at least four years.
  • The course to be recognized is part of the teaching program of the fourth year of study.

4. the attached course documents must be sufficiently detailed to give us an idea of the content of the courses to be recognized and the depth with which the content is covered. On the other hand, it is not helpful if you provide us with all the information you can find on the website.

If you cannot find any meaningful documents on the homepage of the host university, please write to the lecturers concerned and ask for these documents.

5. according to paragraph (9) of the  guidelines of school 9 for the recognition of study and examination achievements acquired outside Osnabrück University (PDF, 125 kB), the crediting of a module for the specialization phase of the Bachelor's degree program or for the compulsory elective area of the Master's degree programs is only possible if predominantly advanced content from the respective elective area is taught at Bachelor's or Master's level.

6. send us the documents in good time (at least two weeks!) before any deadlines.

7. in addition to the course information, we need you to complete the  form confirming eligibility for credit transfer (PDF, 95 kB) (sections "Personal data" and "Courses").

8. submit all documents by e-mail to  uwi-info@uni-osnabrueck.de. Your e-mail with the subject "Vorab-Anerkennung Studienleistungen Ausland" contains only one pdf file as an attachment with all documents (merge all individual files beforehand).

9 As a rule, it is not necessary to appear in person. However, if this should be the case in exceptional circumstances, we will contact you.

10 Unfortunately, incomplete documents cannot be processed. In order to avoid delays, please check carefully for completeness in your own interest.

11. we will only check courses in advance for creditability to the extent that you can and want to attend them abroad. For a semester abroad, this means that you can have courses worth 40 ECTS credits checked in advance (30 ECTS credits regular semester workload plus 10 ECTS credits reserve; for courses in non-EU countries: maximum workload 1,200 hours). We therefore do not examine all conceivable courses; such applications will not be processed.

12. the completed and signed form confirming eligibility for credit transfer will then be sent to you in scanned form by e-mail from the Dean of Studies Office.
