Project description

Medical and nursing care cannot be provided without high-quality and cost-effective medical devices. However, while extensive studies must be carried out prior to the approval of pharmaceuticals and a great deal of research into their effectiveness and side effects is also carried out after approval, it is only with the Medical Devices Act that there are specific requirements for medical devices. Implants in particular, including endoprosthetics such as hip, knee and shoulder implants, have come under fire for putting patient safety at risk. The overarching aim of the AIPOQUE project is to develop and evaluate the application scenario of high-priced medical devices that are frequently used, namely knee, shoulder and hip endoprostheses. In terms of precision medicine, the aim is to enable a decision to be made on the specific selection of a product for a patient, e.g. of a certain age group, with certain secondary diagnoses and pre-existing conditions. The statements from the data-driven forecasts can be compared and enriched with the current literature and future information from the implant register for this product, providing doctors and other decision-makers with a solid basis for their choice and purchasing staff with fact-based guidance.
