Prof. Dr. Dr. rer. soc., Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at the Institute of Islamic Theology at Osnabrück University. Member of IMIS since 2011.

Rauf Ceylan has been a professor at Osnabrück University since 2009. He studied social and cultural sciences at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. After pre-doctoral studies with the subjects social policy, sociology and political science at the Ruhr University Bochum, he received his doctorate there with magna cum laude in sociology (Dr. rer. soc.). In 2014, he received his doctorate summa cum laude in religious education (Dr. phil.) at the University of Vechta. In the winter semester 2018/19, he was a visiting professor at the University of Zurich. In 2019, Ceylan received a W3 call to Humboldt University Berlin to help establish the planned Institute of Islamic Theology. He declined the call and has held a new appointment at Osnabrück University since winter semester 2019/20 - Professorship for Contemporary Islamic Studies. His research activities focus on the sociology of migration and religion and examine the Turkish community in the diaspora. He is a member of the Council for Migration (RfM e.V.).
