Teaching and staff training mobility
Teaching and administrative staff have the opportunity to spend time abroad with funding from the Erasmus+ program. Stays are possible for teaching purposes (Mobility for Teaching, STA) or for further training (Mobility for Training, STT).
The financial grant includes a lump sum for travel expenses calculated according to distance (see Distance Calculator) and a daily allowance for accommodation and meals based on the cost of living in the destination country.
The prerequisite is that there is a contractual employment relationship as an employee/professor with Osnabrück University at the time of the mobility. Staff mobility can take place as part of a business trip for two purposes: Mobility for Teaching (STA), or Mobility for Training (STT).
Mobility for Teaching (STA)
Teaching stays must last at least two days (except in the UK, where the stay must last at least five days) and no more than ten days. A teaching stay must comprise at least 8 teaching hours per week (or in a shorter stay period). If the mobility lasts longer than one week, the minimum number of teaching hours for an incomplete week should be calculated in proportion to the duration of the incomplete week in question (formula: 8 hours / 5 days x number of additional days). Where possible, teaching should be integrated into the regular study program of the host university. Furthermore, a valid “Interinstitutional Agreement” on the planned implementation of a “Teaching Mobility” program must be in place with the respective foreign Erasmus+ partner university. If necessary, a Teaching Mobility program could be included in the agreement at short notice if both partner institutions agree.
Funding for STA mobility is announced annually by the International Office. Applications for teaching mobility for 2025/26 can be submitted until October 31, 2025 (in consultation with Ms. Bartke, possibly later). The applications will then be reviewed in the order in which they are received and a decision will be made depending on the availability of funds. Applications should be submitted at least 4 weeks before the start of the planned mobility. Information on funding and the application process can be found on the websites on Mobility of Teachers.

The Erasmus+ partner universities with an agreement for a Teaching Mobilitycan be viewed in the Teaching Mobility exchange database.
If you are interested in a teaching mobility at one of our partner universities, please first contact Mareike Tudor at the Office for Study Abroad & International Cooperation , where we will discuss the further procedure and your ideas regarding the timing and thematic focus of the mobility and other organizational matters. The integration into the teaching program of the host university can, for example, take the form of a block seminar or participation in lecture series, taking over individual sessions in courses or similar. It is important that the International Office has already received at least a provisional confirmation from the host university that you will be accepted as a guest lecturer at the time of application. We will be happy to contact the partner universities of interest to you. An application form and a Mobility Agreement for Teaching must then be submitted to the International Office via the Office for Study Abroad & International Cooperation. To apply for Erasmus+ funding, a business trip application must also be submitted.
Mobility for Training (STT)
Both academic and administrative staff can undertake an Erasmus+-funded stay abroad via a Staff Mobility for Training. This serves the purposes of further training, strengthening cooperation or promoting internationalization in various areas. The duration can be between a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 6 weeks. This form of mobility does not necessarily require an Erasmus+ agreement between the sending and receiving universities, but it does make it easier to organize and implement. There are basically two possible options:
a) A stay at the host university for individual training purposes: In this case, the program for the exchange is agreed individually between the universities and the person arriving. Possible options here include job shadowing, work shadowing in a specific administrative area, or collaboration on the development of study programs or similar. It is important that a specific training measure is defined.
b) Via an Erasmus Staff Week, which is advertised by the host university: Current offers for various target groups and topics can be researched via the IMOTION portal. The interested person then first applies to the host university for participation and then submits further documents to the International Office for approval.
There is no fixed annual deadline for applying to the International Office for STT mobility and the associated financial support. An application can be submitted at any time before an upcoming mobility. The current call for applications including the financial support rates can be found on the intranet website.
