Application for Erasmus+ cooperations and departmental partnerships

Applying to study abroad at a partner university is a multi-stage application process. First, the application and selection process takes place at the home university (either in the department or at the International Office, depending on the type of cooperation). After being selected and accepted for a place, students are nominated at the planned host university. Students must then also apply there by a certain deadline (depending on the individual university). The final decision on admission is made by the host university.

When applying for a place to study abroad, you have the option of applying for three universities in order of priority. You can combine departmental, Erasmus+ and university partnerships. To increase your chances of studying abroad, it is advisable to make use of the multiple application option! An overview of the available partnerships and places can be found on the  department's partnerships website. Information on the advantages and general application conditions of the Erasmus+ program can be found on the corresponding  websites of the International Office.

Application deadline

This deadline applies to stays abroad in the winter semester 2026/27 and summer semester 2027. There will be no further application deadline for stays in the summer semester.

Instructions for completing the online application
  • You must first create an account in the  online application. If you have already submitted an online application for a program abroad before, you will need to create a new account with a different email address.
  • The ERASMUS+ grant can also be applied for in the online application. No separate application procedure is necessary for this.
  • Up to 3 exchange requests can be prioritized in the online application. It is also possible to combine school, Erasmus+ and university partnerships. Care must then be taken to submit the other application documents in the correct place (applications for university partnerships go to the International Office, Erasmus+ applications to the respective schools).
  • Please use the comment field in the online application to indicate any language courses that are currently running or planned.
Notes on the provisional course list
  • In order to receive ERASMUS+ funding, you must take 30 ECTS per semester or 60 ECTS per year during your studies abroad.
  • If the courses offered for the period of your planned stay abroad are not yet available, please use the current course offer as a guide (it is still possible to adjust your course selection at a later date).
  • When compiling the courses, please ensure that they are at your study level (Bachelor's/Master's) and take place at the specific partner department of the host university (courses from other subjects are sometimes possible, but require separate consultation).
  • The crediting of courses from your studies abroad will be agreed in a Learning Agreement after you have been accepted for a place and before the start of your stay abroad. The contact persons here are the respective international coordinators of the institutes at FB01.

Students are selected and allocated to exchange places on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Language skills (in the language of the country and/or language of instruction): via language courses or language certificates
  • Academic qualification (in particular on the basis of grades in the previous course of study); proof of grades in the transcript of records; in the case of a Bachelor's degree already completed, proof of the Bachelor's certificate and the corresponding transcript of records
  • Study plans (primarily conveyed via the letter of motivation): academic or other interest in the stay abroad, preparation for the stay abroad, feasibility of the stay abroad at the respective partner university

After selection and nomination by the home university, there is a second application procedure at the host university. Additional or different application documents may then be required there, for example a portfolio with practical work is often required in the subjects of art or textile design. The final decision on acceptance as an exchange student is always made by the host university.

The possibility of regocnition of credits earned during studies abroad at a partner university (Erasmus+ partner university, departmental partnership or university cooperation) of Osnabrück University is subject to individual review and approval. The prerequisite for this is that a Learning Agreement is concluded before the start of the stay abroad. This contains both the planned courses at the host university and the recognition of these courses for the home degree program. This is a binding confirmation of the agreed recognition. The Learning Agreement is signed by the student as well as by the sending and receiving universities.

Approval of the recognition of credits from studies abroad is carried out individually and on a case-by-case basis by the departmental representatives responsible for recognition at the institutes. Whether and where a course can be recognized depends on the content fit and the module structure of the respective degree programs. An overview of the persons at the institutes who are authorized to sign the Learning Agreement can be found on the  website of the International Office.

For students who complete a stay abroad via the Erasmus+ program, the Learning Agreement is mandatory and the agreement of approx. 30 ECTS per semester is a prerequisite for receiving the financial Erasmus+ grant. Ideally, the  Online Learning Agreement (OLA) should be used. If the host university does not yet participate in this, a version as a word/pdf document can also be used. Templates of the forms and guidelines for completing the Learning Agreement can be found on the  website of the International Office.
