Water Governance Workshop 2024

The intricate landscape of water governance requires a multifaceted approach to understand and address the various challenges it presents. In light of this, a team around Claudia Pahl-Wostl at Osnabrück University designed and organized a workshop with the purpose of fostering dialogue among scholars working on water governance. The workshop took place at the Botanical Garden of Osnabrück, Germany, from March 4 to March 6, 2024.

A particular focus was set on reflecting upon the commonalities and differences in scientific and practical perspectives on water scarcity. The workshop aimed to leverage the maturity of governance research to provide diverse intellectual insights on the state of the art of current research, the different ontologies underlying this research, potential implications of the research for practice and our abilities to catalyze societal change. Its overall goal was to clarify and disseminate the differences in governance research to enhance its utility for both academic and practical audiences.

A selection of leading scholars in the field of water governance research was invited to participate in this three-day workshop. The participants represented a wide array of ontologies, geographical regions, and educational backgrounds, enriching the debates and contributing to the development of innovative ideas and approaches for tackling water scarcity.
