Virtual access and usage instructions
Prerequisites
As you log on to the vPool virtually, a sufficiently fast Internet connection is of course required. It should also be pointed out here that the general performance of the system for the user also depends heavily on their Internet connection.
VPN solutions (prerequisite for access!)
Access to the virtual PC pool is only possible from the university network, i.e. there must be a VPN connection. Two possible VPN accesses:
- EduVPN ( Instructions)
Website to log in via the Guacamole web interface: https: //vpool.fb9.uni-osnabrueck.de
(An existing VPN connection is required to open it!)
As access with Guacamole is completely web-based, you do not need to download a client application or similar. Then log in with your normal data center user ID, not your e-mail address.
Main menu
After logging in with your user ID, you will be taken to a main menu where you can select a room. The correct room should have been communicated to you beforehand by your lecturer or be visible in StudIP as part of the course.
Log out
If you want to end your session, do not simply close your browser tab, but log out of Windows in the browser.
If you lose the connection to your session due to internet problems or have accidentally closed your browser tab, the session will remain active for 15 minutes. During this time, you can reconnect or end your session properly as described above.
Handout
You can find detailed descriptions of how to use the vPool, including step-by-step illustrated instructions, in our handout, which you can download here.
Storage space
To save personal data, the user drive of the data center is connected under the drive letter Z:\.
Please note: All files must be saved exclusively within the Z:\ drive. The storage path of the Windows standard folders of the Windows desktop and the "My Documents" are technically redirected to this drive, so that files may also be saved within these folders. Further information regarding the available storage space and the recovery of files can be found on the data center page My storage area for users.
