Like my Life

Study participants wanted for posting study

Osnabrück University is looking for study participants aged 16 and over who regularly share posts on Instagram at least twice a month in which they can be seen alone or with other people.

More and more people are sharing their lives on social media. A quick filter on the picture, a funny caption and the post is ready. These are often pictures of people and their bodies, which means that image-based social media, such as Instagram, are increasingly becoming the focus of body image research. "Unlike passive consumption, the topic of posting on social media is being looked at much less," says psychologist Kristine Schönhals, "although it would also be important to know what posting one's own body does to the very people who share pictures of their vacation or their last training session, for example. The majority of the few studies on this topic relate to questionnaire data that is collected on a one-off basis. We, on the other hand, want to investigate what effects posting your own body on Instagram has on your own body image and mood in everyday life."

The "Like my Life" research project is being carried out by the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (headed by Prof. Dr. Silja Vocks). Participation includes a basic online questionnaire, a training session online or in person at the Institute of Psychology at Osnabrück University and answering a few questions in everyday life over four weeks using a smartphone. Study participants will receive a voucher worth up to €30 for complete participation. Interested parties can contact the study leader Kristine Schönhals or the study team by  email or participate directly via the following link:  https://kpp-limesurvey.psy.uni-osnabrueck.de/index.php?r=survey/index&sid=931213&lang=de
