OSKA+: Your Start at Osnabrück University!

The OSKA+ program supports you with your individual start to your studies and helps you to find your way around. Experienced students - our OSKAs - are there for you even before lectures start! OSKA stands for "OSnabrücker Kommiliton*innen für Studien-Anfänger*innen" (= OSnabrück fellow students for first-year students).

Introductory Week

In the introductory week before the winter semester - also known as "fresher's week" - our OSKA+ tutors will welcome you to the university. Here you will get to know your most important contact persons, the campus and your fellow students.

OSKA+ Mentoring for First Semester Students

From the start of lectures, OSKA+ mentors are available to support you individually in a small group throughout your first semester. Our OSKAs are experienced students who will support you personally with any questions you may have.

OSKA+ Peer Learning for Second Semester Students

Our OSKA+ peer tutors are experienced students who will support you in workshops during the summer semester to develop important skills for your studies.

For Our International Students

 Welcome Week: Before the introductory week at the start of the semester, the International Office offers a Welcome Week for international degree-seeking students and international exchange students. During the Welcome Week, you will receive support in completing various formalities and have space for cultural exchange!

 Interdisciplinary course offer for (international) students: Each semester, the international office and the language centre offer, with the support of cooperation partners and associate lecturers, a number of interdisciplinary, English-taught courses for (international) students at Osnabrück University. These courses provide a unique opportunity for intercultural (learning) experiences on a variety of topics.

 Intensive German course: You are cordially invited to prepare for the winter semester with the three-week intensive language course. You will have daily German lessons at the university's Language Center and get to know student life in Osnabrück University in a joint leisure program.

Checklist for starting your studies

Arrive

Well networked and digitally connected!

  • Your central access: You need your  user ID to log in to all study-related services at Osnabrück University. After enrolling, you will receive an initial password and a link to check your user ID online.
  • ID for the campus: Your  Campuscard is your student ID, semester ticket, library card and much more.
  • Course and event registration: You log in to the  Stud.IP teaching and learning platform with your user ID and password to book lectures and events. The platform is the central point of contact for all teaching and learning opportunities at the university.
  • Quick access to the WLAN: You can find the access data for the university network (eduroam WLAN) on the IT services pages; there are compact instructions for all common operating systems.
  • Managepasswordandprofile data: You can change your password and view your user data in the  myRZ portal.
  • Your browser-based university mailbox: You can access your university e-mail from any browser via the  SOGo web mail server. You can log in with your user ID.
  • Secure university cloud for your data: With the  myShare cloud service, you can access your files from anywhere in the world, while they remain securely stored on the data center's physical storage facilities. The service is free of charge for students and employees.
  • Helpandsupport: On the Osnabrück University  IT services pages, you will receive compact instructions on the central digital services of Osnabrück University after logging in.

Starting your studies

  • Required reading: At the beginning of your studies, it is important to take a look at the examination regulations for your degree program. You can find the link to the regulations on the page of your degree program under  Degree programs from A-Z or under  Degrees and regulations.
  • Create a timetable: You can choose your courses and lectures via our teaching and learning platform  Stud.IP. You can obtain annotated course catalogs directly from your subjects.
  • Full program: During the  introductory week, you will get to know your most important contact persons, the campus and your fellow students. We also organize a  Welcome Week for international students!
  • Highlight of the induction week: Don't miss the big  Welcoming Ceremony for Freshers in OsnabrückHalle!
  • Help getting started: experienced students - our  OSKAs - will be on hand as mentors to provide you with advice and support.

  • Explore the campus: Just take a look at our digital  map with information on accessibility, bus stops and parking facilities. Here you can see where our institute, seminar and lecture hall buildings, our libraries, the student center and the canteens are located.
