Your Study Start: OSKA+ program
First semester mentoring
Are you worried that your studies will be too much for you? Are you unable to attend Introductory Week or only part of it? Are you new to Osnabrück or the first in your family to go to university? For all these questions, you will be assigned a personal contact – an OSKA.
How you can benefit:
- Direct contact with experienced students in your subjects
- Get to know other first-year students
- Tips on living in Osnabrück to help you settle in more quickly
- Support in organizing your studies, e.g. in creating your timetable
- Relieving uncertainties and fears by sharing experiences
Our OSKAs are experienced students who will guide you through your first semester with events and activities. They are on hand to answer any questions you may have to help you find your way through the university.
How do you organize the mentoring relationship with your OSKA?
- You have questions about your studies and your everyday life at university
- You would like to have regular exchanges and meetings in a small group
- You are interested in getting to know your fellow students, the university and the city
- You are willing to participate in regular course workshops
Structure of the mentoring
| 1st part | Individual meetings of OSKAs and mentees between August and the end of February |
|---|---|
| 2nd part | Peer workshops during the semester: week 44, week 46, week 48, week 50, week 02, week 04 |
Part 1: Mentoring Group Meetings
- The mentoring group meetings will be scheduled individually and will begin in August.
- Individual meetings are also possible at any time, if desired.
- In addition to formal meetings with set topics, the OSKAs will also organize informal get-togethers so you can get to know the campus, the city, and everyday student life in a relaxed atmosphere.
Part 2: Peer Workshops (by students for students)
- The peer workshops begin at the end of October.
- You choose a fixed 60-minute workshop slot during the semester.
- Over six sessions, the group will work together to develop important cross-disciplinary skills that will help you get off to a good start in your studies (including study techniques, academic goals, self-management and time management, and coping with stress).
Please note that you can only participate in the mentoring program in conjunction with the peer workshops.
