Vocational Training

Training begins on August 1 and usually lasts 3 to 3 ½ years. If necessary, it can be shortened by up to one year.

The probationary period is 3 months. During this period, the training contract can be terminated by either the trainee or the training company without giving reasons.

The regular weekly working time is currently 39.8 hours. The start and end of working hours are regulated differently in the individual areas. It is usually possible to arrange the daily working hours largely individually within the framework of the service agreement on flexible working hours.

The collectively agreed annual leave is 30 days.

Remuneration is based on the general collective agreement for trainees in conjunction with the applicable collective agreement on training allowances. It currently amounts to (gross amounts: as of 04/2026)

• 1296.82 euros per month in the first year of training,
• 1350.96 euros per month in the second year of training,
• 1400.61 euros per month in the third year of training,
• 1469.51 euros per month in the fourth year of training.

In addition to the training allowance, there are also capital-forming benefits amounting to 13.29 euros per month.

A completion bonus of 400 euros is paid on successful completion of vocational training.

In addition to practical supervision, Osnabrück University offers trainees additional in-house tuition. This covers training-related and social topics. The lessons also serve as exam preparation. Furthermore, trainees can take advantage of the university's extensive internal continuing education program (language courses, IT courses, etc.) as well as the university sports facilities (over 80 types of sport).

Continued employment usually depends on the respective needs and financial possibilities. Osnabrück University endeavors to offer trainees at least 6 months of temporary continued employment. In the last 20 years, almost all administrative trainees have been offered permanent employment.
