Good Research Practice

In order to fulfill its responsibility in research, teaching and the promotion of early career researchers, Osnabrück University takes precautions to deal with cases of scientific misconduct.

Osnabrück University welcomes the publication of the "Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice" code of conduct by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2019. The code can be seen as a consistent further development of the DFG's memorandum on safeguarding good research practice from 1998.

 DFG Code of Conduct (2019)

The aim of implementing the DFG Code of Conduct at Osnabrück University is to establish a culture of scientific integrity at Osnabrück University that is not exclusively based on violations of good research practice, but is also supported by the professional ethos of the researchers.

In addition to the Code, the DFG has set up a  "Research Integrity Portal". At the heart of the portal is an ongoing commentary on the Code as well as other current topics and event information.

For the legally binding implementation of the Code of Conduct at Osnabrück University, the university management set up a "Working Group on Good Research Practice" in 2020, which dealt with a fundamental revision and update of the existing "Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice". The result of the working group on good research practice is the "Regulations for Safeguarding Good Research Practice" at Osnabrück University, which were adopted by the Senate.

Scientific integrity forms the basis for trustworthy research. It is an example of academic voluntary commitment that encompasses a respectful attitude towards peers, research participants, animals, cultural assets, and the environment, and strengthens and promotes vital public trust in research.
