Regular events
As PhD Student Representative Committee, we regularly organize various events to connect PhD students at Osnabrück University with one another. Unlike students in undergraduate degree programs where daily classes provide natural opportunities to meet, PhD students often miss these chances to interact. Therefore, we aim to create alternative opportunities for PhD students to exchange ideas and work together.
Below we present all the events that we organize at regular intervals.
Regulars' table
Whether you have just started your dissertation or are about to submit it, join us at our regulars' table to get to know other PhD students, reconnect with familiar faces, and engage in lively discussions at our gathering. We will let you know when the next regulars' table takes place. Subscribe to our mailing list and follow our Instagram channel to make sure you don't miss any news!
We answer frequently asked questions about the regulars' table in the FAQ below:
- I don't know anyone. Can I still come?
Of course, the purpose of this event is to get to know other PhD students. The regulars' table is not a fixed group that meets regularly, but a casual get-together of various doctoral students. - Is there a fixed program?
No, there is not. We decide spontaneously how we spend the evening together. - Do I have to speak German/English during the entire evening?
No, you can choose which language you would like to use. - How many people usually attend the regulars' table?
About 10. - Do I have to be there right at the beginning?
No, you can come and go as you please (open end). - Do I have to register in advance?
No, you are welcome to come spontaneously and unannounced!
Long Night of Unwritten Dissertations
At our "Long Night of Unwritten Dissertations" you can work alongside other PhD students in focused work sessions (Pomodoro technique) to finally tackle that chapter or finish that paper you never seem to find the time or motivation for.
To take part in the Long Night, please register in the Stud.IP group. You can find out when the next event will take place via our mailing list or Instagram!
Mental Health Workshops
A doctorate comes with various challenges - not only regarding the independent and intensive engagement with a topic over a long period of time but also concerning the breadth of responsibilities (research, teaching obligations, etc.), work-life balance, funding issues, and many other aspects.
To effectively manage these challenges, it is important to take care of oneself. For some time now, we have been focusing on the topic of mental health during a doctorate and have decided to launch a series of events with workshops on various topics. We have so far initiated a small series of events in which guest speakers contribute to various topics related to mental health. The following events have already taken place:
- Doing (and living) a better doctorate thanks to mindset work (led by Dr. Anna Maria Beck)
- Emotional freedom and self-management with EFT (led by Dr. Anna Maria Beck)
- Overcoming procastination (led by Dr. Martin Greisel)
- Dissertation, depression, disillusionment: A report on mental health in science (Friedhelm Bruns)
Events related to the topic of mental health are also offered every semester by the PhD/Postdoc Career Center. Please see the workshop program for more information.
We would also like to give you some references on the topic of mental health during a doctorate in Germany:
