Professorship for Social Education with a focus on racism research
Topic of the inaugural lecture:
Understanding racism? On the significance of psychoanalytical theories of racism for research, university teaching and educational practice
As a social regulation, racism influences both social conditions and individual educational processes. This is why the (pedagogical) concept of racism criticism strives to reflect on and transform these regulations. The fact that feelings and affects also play a role in this has been emphasized, but has not yet been systematically addressed in the pedagogical debate. In her inaugural lecture, Prof. Lisa Janotta develops a research perspective that examines the significance of psychoanalytical theories of racism for university teaching and pedagogical practice.

Presentation of the "Equal Opportunities Strong University" award by the BMBF
The inaugural lecture by Professor Lisa Janotta, who will be appointed on October 1, 2024, will be combined with the presentation of the "Equal Opportunities Strong University" award, which Osnabrück University received as part of its application to the Female Professors Program 2030.
The Female Professors Program was launched in 2008 as a joint initiative of the federal and state governments with the aim of retaining more women in the academic system after completing their Doctorate, increasing their participation at all qualification levels and further advancing actual gender equality. Successful universities receive start-up funding for a period of five years for a maximum of three initial appointments of female academics to permanent W2 and W3 professorships. Receiving the award also enables the funding of an additional position for a period of five years for a female researcher on her way to becoming a professor.
Osnabrück University has been successful in all three rounds of applications to date with the gender equality concept it submitted and has now been awarded an award for the second time. In the three rounds to date, the university has already been able to contribute to the program objectives with eight first-time appointments to six W2 and two W3 professorships. The funds thus released have also enabled the implementation of various gender equality projects at the university. In the current fourth round of the Women Professors Program 2030, Lisa Janotta is the first program professorship to be acquired.
