Agroecology and Soil Research
This site provides information about our research activities in the field of agroecology and soil research.
In addition to geoecological projects in high mountains and polar regions, the ecology of agricultural ecosystems is the focus of scientific work within this area.
Both, grassland and arable land use are examined holistically, particularly with regard to land use changes such as fallow or the cultivation of energy crops. The aim is to develop relevant indicators, such as the humus and nutrient balance, soil structure, biological activity and topsoil condition, and to incorporate them into concepts for sustainable land use and soil protection in an application-oriented manner.

Women's Power in Soil Science
Together with graduates of the Master's degree course "Soil, Water & Contaminated Sites" the members of the institute's working group on soil have once again demonstrated the high quality of soil science in Osnabrück.
This success was highlighted bylectures and posters at the conference of the German Soil Science Society (DBG) in Halle/Saale in 2023.
We congratulate Prof. Dr. Gabriele Broll on being awarded Honorary Membership of the DBG in recognition of her service, as announced at the general meeting.
