Internships

Internships in Geography Degree Programs

An internship is an essential component of all Geography degree programs. While every program requires at least one internship, the specific requirements and duration vary depending on the degree course.

You can find detailed information on internship requirements for each Geography program [here].
For further questions, please contact the Student Advisory Service  Student Advisory Service which also serves as the Institute’s internship office.

Internships in the Dual-Subject Bachelor's Program

Students in the dual-subject Bachelor's program are required to complete up to two ungraded internships totaling 14 credit points. Each internship typically lasts five weeks and earns 7 credit points.

You may complete one or both internships in Geography. Specific requirements are outlined in the program-specific examination regulations and the subject-specific appendix, which you can access  here.

To help you find a suitable internship, the Institute of Geography maintains a student feedback database containing information on previous internships—such as industry, location, contact person, and supervision details. This database is available on a PC in the C4 site library. You’ll also find current and archived internship postings in the "Praktikumbörse" folder within the Stud.IP event "Infoplattform Geographie."

After completing your internship, please submit the following in paper form to the internship officer (currently the degree program coordinator):

  • Your internship report

  • A certificate from the internship provider

  • The completed feedback questionnaire

Once submitted and reviewed, your internship will be credited at the Examination Office.

For more details, please see the [internship information]. The form for the internship certificate is available [here], and the questionnaire can be downloaded [here].

Students pursuing a Master’s degree in Secondary Teacher Education (Gymnasium) after completing the dual-subject Bachelor's program should follow the internship guidelines specific to teacher education.

An overview of the BFP and EFP requirements in the Master’s program, available [here], offers helpful orientation for getting started.

Further details can be found in the subject-specific module descriptions (GEO-MEd C and GEO-MEd D) for the M.Ed. program, as well as on the websites of the Center for Teacher Education (ZLB) and the university’s page on teacher training internships.

This internship is not graded and is typically completed as one continuous placement, though it can be divided into two shorter internships if needed.
