Society – Space – Migration
This research explores the relationship between society, space, and migration. We examine how spaces are socially produced and how spatial configurations and perceptions contribute to social differentiation and transformation. Our particular interest lies in the co-production of space and migration, and how they shape and influence one another.
Current focus topics : Geographies of migration, urban migration societies, superdiversity and cultural production, local and transnational migration and border regimes as well as spatial knowledge production.
This research focus is situated within interdisciplinary migration studies, where geography plays a central role. Traditionally, geography has been concerned with the spatial documentation, analysis, and forecasting of migration processes and their impacts. A socio-geographical perspective broadens this scope by introducing a systematic social dimension and addressing questions about the social significance of space in a globalized world. Consequently, the geographical study of the intersections between globalization, migration, and space also involves a critical reflection on how migration is spatialized in both everyday contexts and academic discourse.
