Study Courses

Welcome, Future Geographers!

Are you passionate about global issues like climate change, migration, social transformation, sustainability, and globalization? If so, geography could be the perfect field for you!

Unlike traditional divisions between the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, geography brings together these diverse perspectives. At the Osnabrück Institute of Geography, we embrace this interdisciplinary approach, offering a variety of specialization and combination options tailored to your interests.

Studying at our institute means more than just acquiring knowledge — it's about gaining hands-on experience, developing future-proof skills, and carving out a unique academic profile. You'll enjoy a supportive and personalized study environment, while benefiting from strong international connections and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our program prepares you for a wide range of careers, whether in business, public planning, education, or research. With a focus on both practical application and academic rigor, you'll be well-equipped to thrive in the dynamic and evolving world of geography.

Our  student advisor Sven Deeken is available to answer any questions you may have about your studies and guide you through the process.

Are you uncertain about whether studying Geography at the Institute of Geography is the right choice for you? Why not explore the possibilities! The Institute of Geography, in collaboration with the Central Study Counseling Service of Osnabrück University, provides a range of options to help you make an informed decision:

Student for a day

As part of this program, you have the opportunity to shadow a student from the Institute of Geography for a day, experiencing university life firsthand. You'll attend classes, explore the campus, sample the offerings at the canteen, and familiarize yourself with both the department and the university as a whole. Plus, you'll have the chance to ask any questions you may have and receive answers directly from a current student.

Further information about the program can be  found here.

Test your Studies

The "Test Your Studies" program offers you the opportunity to participate in selected courses as a guest student. The available courses vary each semester and include lectures, seminars, and other formats. No application is required to join this program. However, if more than two participants wish to attend a course, a written request should be submitted in advance to ensure there is enough capacity.

You can find a list of the current "Test your Studies" courses here.
