Program Description

Geography as an Extension Subject in Teacher Education (M.Ed. for Gymnasium)

Geography can be studied as an extension subject (also referred to as a third subject) within the Master of Education (M.Ed.) program for High-School-level teaching.

To be eligible, you must already be enrolled in an M.Ed. program with two teaching subjects or have already completed the M.Ed. degree.

Study Requirements

To qualify for the extension subject Geography, you must first complete the 63 credit points (CP) of the core subject Geography in the dual-subject Bachelor's program. Detailed information is available [here on our homepage].

Following this, you will complete 30 CP in the core subject Geography within the M.Ed. program. Further details can also be found [here].

Important Notes

When studying Geography as an extension subject, you do not need to complete:

  • Additional internships

  • The Competence-Oriented Final Module (KCL)

  • A Master’s thesis in Geography
