Sustainable Campus
Get active and shape the future
Sustainable action is colorful and offers a wide range of opportunities
As an educational and research institution, Osnabrück University has a role model function and responsibility towards its members and society. In line with the principle of sustainability, it accepts this responsibility for current and future generations.
Numerous hands-on activities and projects in the areas of mobility, procurement, energy, construction, resource conservation and nature conservation characterize the work of university members at Osnabrück University under the title Greening the University.

Join us : Green Office Project
The Green Office Project will launch in the summer semester of 2025 and will serve as an additional hub for the topic of sustainable development at the University of Osnabrück (UOS). It will promote networking among students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. The project will offer opportunities to collaborate on sustainability initiatives and will initiate, coordinate, and support sustainability projects within the university's teaching and operations.
Together, we can make a difference! You will find us from July 2, weekly every Wednesday from 2pm-4pm in building 53, room 110.
Focus on mobility routines
How do Osnabrück University employees get to work every day - and why exactly?
As part of a master's thesis at the Institute of Geography, routines and factors influencing the choice of means of transport are currently being qualitatively investigated. The aim is to gain practical insights for a more sustainable mobility design at the university.
Planting Party - Tuesday, July 01, 2025
On Tuesday, July 1, from 11 am to 1 pm, students from the module "Transdisciplinary Methods in Resource Management" invite you to a planting event on campus. The facade between buildings 93 and SL will be planted with the first hop plants - a small step towards more greenery at the university.
Anyone who would like to lend a hand or simply drop by is very welcome. Cold drinks, music and a short survey on campus design will round off the event.
"Fridays4Future Osnabrück" and "Leben und Lernen e.V" : The WEEK - Filmprojekt 3-parts
The Week is fundamentally accessible online to everyone. However, its impact also stems from the shared experience of watching the films together, fostering connection and exchange among viewers and generating energy for action. The films are viewed, if possible, within a week. They provide a highly structured overview of the three ecological crises, their interplay, and their impacts. Furthermore, they allow viewers to participate in the process of the film's protagonists, who also realize, reflect on the situation in their own lives, and find encouragement and community in taking action. The films consider important aspects of climate psychology in their approach and take the viewer on an emotional journey.

Sustainability in university sports
Promoting social sustainability has always been a central task of university sports. In addition to the social dimension, ecological aspects are increasingly coming into focus, and due to its wide reach and multiplier effect, raising awareness among university sports participants for resource-saving and sustainable behavior is gaining importance. Numerous measures have already been implemented.
