Prof. Dr. Christian Dorsch
Junior Professor for Geography Didactics
Head of the Geography Didactics working group
Main research interests: Maturity-oriented geographical education, e-portfolio work in geographical education, transformative education in digitality, reflexive use of digital geomedia
Spatial focus: Europe, Africa
Christian Dorsch holds the Junior Professorship for Geography Didactics since 2023.
His research focuses on the promotion of maturity-oriented education in geography, especially under the influence of digitality.
He is particularly interested in which informal learning processes, e.g. in the fields of climate and climate change, take place in social media and how teachers can use these for geography lessons.
Christian Dorsch previously worked as a research assistant at Goethe University Frankfurt. In his dissertation, he dealt with the question of the extent to which e-portfolio work in geography teacher training promotes a maturity-oriented education. In the LEVEL and The Next Level projects funded as part of the teacher training quality campaign, he investigated how the three phases of teacher training can be more closely interlinked through the use of teaching videos and portfolio work. Christian Dorsch studied Geography and Classics for Secondary Teacher Education (Gymnasium) and Geography at the Universities of Frankfurt am Main and Marburg.
He is co-editor of OpenSpaces - Zeitschrift für Didaktiken der Geographie

International Alumni Training Seminar DigEdu - Training Digital technologies in environmental education
In an eight-day seminar in Nairobi organized by the Geography Didactics working group at Osnabrück University in cooperation with Goethe University Frankfurt and Kenyatta University Nairobi, African alumni of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) learn about various ways of using eLearning technologies to better understand and deal with climate change and the biodiversity crisis. The main methods used are e-portfolios, AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality). With the help of these techniques, participants will develop their own concepts for making university teaching more accessible to climate and sustainability issues and their solutions and generating greater added value for students. Following the seminar, the group will travel on to the eLearning Africa Conference in Rwanda. There, the alumni will organize their own workshop in which they will present the digital tools with practical application examples. An important step for the success of the seminar: The seminar participants have become multipliers for the digital technologies, which are intended to improve university teaching in the long term. The aim is for them to continue this work at their own universities.
