The idea pool at Osnabrück University is a collection of ideas to further develop teaching. It is a work-in-progress collection that is constantly being updated. Thus, it is worth taking a look at the collection of ideas from time to time. The ideas focus on five areas, namely the flexible design of teaching and learning offers, the effective and valuable use of attendance time in courses, the confident and smart use of digital tools in teaching, the support for students’ independent learning as well as the skills for a for digitalized world. Additionally, there are practical tips for implementing the various ideas.

“Die Schreibtasche” is a professional blog on writing didactics. It addresses everyone who is involved in academic writing – whether in consulting, teaching or out of personal interest. The blog serves as a platform for the exchange of information on aspects of academic writing, such as writing processes, didactic methods and the organization of writing faculties. It was established by a working group of the Austrian Society for Scientific Writing (GewissS). In addition to the practical advice and professional discussions, the blog offers suggestions for the further development of writing skills as well as insights into the framework of writing lessons and consultations.

With the aim to create an empirical foundation for discussing changes in higher education brought about by AI-based tools and chatbots, under the lead of Jörg Garrel, Jana Mayer and Markusmühlfeld students across Germany have been surveyed about their AI use in their studies and day-to-day life. The survey results reveal whether and which AI-tools students use. The findings further showcase in which domains and to which ends students make use of AI-based tools in their everyday (student) life.

Short description:
How do students use generative AI tools such as ChatGPT or DeepL for the bachelor’s theses? This question was at the heart of a study conducted at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in July 2023. The results show that around two thirds of participants use AI tools, particularly for text revision, idea generation and linguistic support. At the same time, there is uncertainty about the legal framework for the use of AI. The report provides various insights into the opportunities, challenges and the perception of AI in academic writing and gives impetus for future discussions and guidelines.
