Lunch & Learn "Auf Kosten der Mütter"

In this online lecture, Birgit Happel talks about the importance of financial self-determination for FLINTA* and invites listeners to rethink monetary matters and reflect on shaping their own financial future.

Lunch & Learn „Auf Kosten der Mütter – Warum finanzielle Selbstbestimmung für FLINTA* so wichtig ist“

How do social role models shape the way we deal with money? There are close interactions between gainful employment, care work, and financial security, which perpetuate structural inequalities throughout the course of life. Feminist economics calls for structural risks to be made visible and for economic participation to be gender-equitable.

In the context of higher education in particular, it becomes clear how closely career decisions, family planning, and institutional frameworks are intertwined. Fixed-term contracts, part-time models, and unconscious biases shape life and career paths.

Sociologist and financial education expert Dr. Birgit Happel invites us to rethink money issues and to reflect on our own financial future. She shows how stereotypes and structural factors affect individual decisions and how fair role distribution, financial self-determination, and quality of life can be considered together.

Her lecture encourages us to gain more financial confidence, compensate for unpaid care work, and create a solid foundation for professional and personal decisions about the future.
