The scientist, who worked at Osnabrück University for many years, received the award at the 27th University Day of the German Association for Sports Science in Münster.
In the laudatory speech, her tireless commitment to a "moving childhood" was emphasized, which was demonstrated in many research projects and a successful transfer into practice. The childhood congresses she has organized with around 3,000 participants also testify to the great response her work has received both nationally and internationally.
This is not the first award Renate Zimmer has received: in 2007 she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her educational and socio-political commitment to children. In 2009, she was named Professor of the Year in the Humanities, Social and Cultural Sciences category.
Until her retirement in 2016, Ms Zimmer taught and researched for 39 years at Osnabrück University in the School of Educational and Cultural Studies and headed the Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences for many years.
