University President Prof. Dr. Susanne Menzel-Riedl began by warmly congratulating the new doctoral graduates. Prof. Dr. Andrea Lenschow, Vice President for International Affairs, Diversity and Academic Staff Development, also emphasized the special achievement that was being honored on this day in her speech: "My hope is that you will look back on your doctorate with joy and at the same time remember your and our university fondly - wherever your further path in life may take you."
In an entertaining speech, psychologist Lena Schmeiduch, one of this year's doctoral graduates, shared her experiences with the audience. She described her Doctorate as a time of contrasts, ever new experiences and cohesion, and emphasized the opportunities for international cooperation. In this context, she thanked everyone who had accompanied and supported her during her Doctorate.
As a special sign of their solidarity with the university, the academic scarf made of red silk on black cotton was also awarded to the doctoral candidates this year. The scarf, designed by students on the Textile Design course, is handmade in the region on a historic jacquard loom. It symbolizes the special connection between the university and the city through the Osnabrück University Peace Wheel in the middle, which, together with a lily and the university logo, becomes a symbol of wisdom and knowledge.
After the ceremony in the Schlossaula, the guests walked through the city center to the town hall, where the graduates were able to pose for a photo with the Lord Mayor Katharina Pötter on the outside steps. In her speech, she emphasized the special relationship between the city and the students, staff and academics. After her words of welcome, she invited everyone to a champagne reception and to sign the doctoral book.
