Strategic development of potential

Osnabrück University has successfully raised €16.25 million from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture and the Volkswagen Foundation as part of the joint funding program "Strategic Development of Potential" ("Potenziale Strategisch Entfalten") to raise the profile, excellence and visibility of Osnabrück University.

"The fact that we succeeded in doing so well in this highly competitive selection process shows that our strategic considerations were exactly right - and at the same time reflects who we are: an institution with strong regional roots, solid research across the board and internationally recognized top-level research," says University President Prof. Dr. Susanne Menzel-Riedl.

The goals of Osnabrück University have been incorporated into the funded application "Responsibility and Ambition: Excellent Research, Innovative Education, Responsible Governance". These three interlinked pillars - research, teaching and governance - represent the strategic framework for the next five years (2025-2030) and are intended to further advance the sustainable institutional development and strengthening of the university's social impact.

With the strategy project "Strategically developing potential", the university is building on its previous strategy process "UOS2020" in order to continue on the path of ambitious profile development - both in research and teaching. This is complemented by the further development of a modern management culture and the existing internationalization of the university.

Goals

The three primary strategic goals are each divided into three sub-goals. What they all have in common is that the existing potential at our university should be seized upon, strengthened and made competitive for the future.

Excellent research

Institutional visibility as a research university - nationally and in Europe

  • A1: Strengthening excellent collaborative research
  • A2: Supporting new collaborative research initiatives and developing new research topics
  • A3: Strengthening research communication in society

Innovative teaching

Research-oriented teaching and learning for a diverse student body

  • B1: Strengthening innovative forms of teaching and learning in all schools
  • B2: Improving the structural framework conditions for a diverse student body
  • B3: Promoting the social and societal engagement of students

Responsible governance

Responsible governance as a guiding principle of our university culture

  • C1: Promotion of an international organizational culture
  • C2: Establishing a "new work-oriented" management culture
  • C3: Assuming social responsibility by strengthening a culture of knowledge transfer

Cross-cutting objectives : Internationalization and transfer

Across all three pillars, the further internationalization of the university is promoted through integrated welcome services, an internationalization fund and a future workshop on internationalization.

The university's transfer culture will be further expanded and strengthened as part of science and transfer communication and through participation in the start-up audit (objectives A3 and C3).
