Beschreibung

Asking ‚where are the women‘, Enloe, among other scholars, initiated a new perspective in International Relations (IR). Since the late 1980s, feminist IR has offered alternative percep- tions on the international system as a new strand to IR. Even though, feminist IR is still some- what subordinate to the dominant IR schools of thought, which include (Neo-)Realism and (Neo-)Liberalism, its presence in IR has increased in the last decades becoming more widely acknowledged and more visible. As such, feminist IR criticizes IR’s gender-blindness and its inherent male biases as well as the reproduction of patriarchal power structures and norms through theory, empirical research and related methodologies. Emphasizing the need for the inclusion of gender in IR research, feminist IR centres gender in their theorizations and meth- odologies offering a new lens and gender-sensitive perspective to the international system, its phenomena and occurrences.
In this light, feminist perspectives on peace, conflict and security as well as a related feminist strand in Peace and Conflict Studies emerged entailing various standpoints, theoretical consid- erations and wide-ranging empirical research. In this seminar, these perspectives will be further examined by taking a closer look at theoretical foundations, (policy) approaches, feminist meth- odologies concerning peace and conflict as well as case studies to illustrate the broadness of feminist perspectives and their impact on the field.
